Well, nice and cheap
Once a small spot for buying fruits and vegetables, it has turned over the years into one of the most popular and well known restaurants in Mallorca: Es Cruce, a place highly recommended for any connoisseur of authentic, traditional cuisine. The restaurant is on the Palma-Manacor road, km 41, at Vilafranca de Bonany, Majorca. In it you can taste the typical dishes of the island, such as arròs brut (kind of a rice soup), roast suckling pig, partridges, snails or frito mallorquín (fried dish of chopped liver, onion and pepper), among many others. You can also try traditional desserts like the Majorcan almond cake with ice-cream or the Majorcan pastries with cream. However, the amazing thing of this premise is its prices; considering the high-quality of its products, prices are very affordable for any budget.
Es Cruce is a popular restaurant among the people of Majorca and is usually full. On weekends, at peak hours, there are typically long queues that can be seen from the road. However, wait do not takes that long because the delivery is usually quick and organized. One feature of this restaurant is that they do not accept bookings.
Because of the huge size of the premise, the atmosphere is busy and unwelcoming and the service ―efficient and very kind though― little customized. However the quality-price ratio of the place highly makes up for those drawbacks. Therefore, it can be concluded that Es Cruce is undoubtedly worth visiting.
The origins of Es Cruce go back to the vegetable garden that Guillem Garí’s parents had in the outskirts of Vilafranca de Bonany. Garí is the current owner of the restaurant. His parents used to grow fruits and vegetables there and then sell them under a rustic pine awning. Later they built a small bar, with a large fireplace, where they served grilled meat and sausages. The business was gradually expanded until it became what is now known as Es Cruce, a great restaurant with capacity for over 600 guests.
The lands of the Garí family are still highly productive. Right next to the restaurant is s’Hort Verd des Cruce, a greengrocer’s where all kinds of freshly picked produce are sold. It should be noted that Es Cruce is firmly committed to local produce and clearly quality takes precedence over benefits.
